Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen and Centre for Contemporary Art, Saint-Pierre-de-Varengeville, France. June 15 to September 30, 2012.

Magic, Vera Molnar. Magic as these colorful squares by Paul Klee which have inspired some her works. The world where she led our walk is full of simple shapes: line (straight, oblique, zigzag, open or closed, wise or hysterical), circle (perfect or half-moon, black and / or colored, framed or nu), point (tiny and sometimes at the limit of visibility, moving the "full circle" and lack the most total vacuum: pinhole), square (naked, repeated and put into deep, open or closed, single or twin, frayed, distorted and sometimes soft to intoxication and to laugh.

The work is gay. Subtle. Continually declined. With times, returns, and all work on memory of forms. Abstract, geometric and pure, all of this work could be austere, rigid. - It is not the case. The irony, fun are there at every turn of the maze of forms.

The world of Vera possesses the simplicity of the child's world, cunning and complexity of the dreams of an old Chinese sage... armed with his brush in red paint. Or blue. Or green. Or yellow. All colors are balanced counterpoint to the black and white.

The artist, one day, met the computer and she has made it her instrument, bending it to the whims of his imagination. The machine does not dictate anything, it amplifies the possibilities, increasing the potential of the artist's dreams, authorizes all variations.

Order and disorder: the work is at the crossroads of the chiasm. Introducing 1% of disorder (1976)in a regular structure is about irony. And one can then gradually increase the dose ... to the breaking point. At a time when the formal grid initial decays and becomes something else entirely.

One way to reconcile everyone with math, crayons and large patches of colorful impressionist paintings. - Run this summer at the Museum of Rouen and Center for Contemporary Art in Saint-Pierre-de-Varengeville. Infuse you of all madness linear that Vera Molnar has consistently churned out over the years. To the delight of her eyes, her mind. And for ours.

Bravo, Vera : go to the beach where we can draw with you on the sand a few of these simple figures that you love : a circle, a square, a line shifted a bit ... And the silhouette of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire so often you have profiled.
